Eco-Friendly Cleaning in Florida: What Actually Works
Green cleaning is easy in a dry climate. It's a different game in Florida, where humidity keeps mold happy and sand sneaks in with every guest. After three years of testing on Sarasota homes, this is the shortlist that actually works.
Vinegar isn't a universal answer
White vinegar is a great glass and hard-surface cleaner. It's not enough for grout, mold, or grease. Reach for oxygen-based cleaners (sodium percarbonate) on grout and enzymatic cleaners on grease.
EPA Safer Choice β look for the logo
Not every 'green' label means much. The EPA Safer Choice logo means the product was reviewed for both safety and effectiveness. That's the shortcut we use when picking products.
Microfiber over paper
One good microfiber cloth replaces dozens of paper-towel rolls a year. Wash it hot, no fabric softener (softener clogs the fibers).
Ventilate β humidity is half the battle
The greenest cleaning approach in Florida is often prevention: run bathroom fans during and after showers, and dehumidify to under 55% RH. Fewer chemicals needed if mold never gets a foothold.
- Run bath fans for 20 min after showers
- Keep AC humidity below 55%
- Wipe down showers with a squeegee
